AbbVie IBD Scholarship Program for Canadian Applicants, 2017

Applications are invited for AbbVie IBD Scholarship Program which is available to post-secondary students of any age who are living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis. Applicants from Canada are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
The institution provides modern educational and research environments that will enable students and researchers to face current challenges and to focus on knowledge as a principle driving force for development.
The AbbVie IBD Scholarship Program, brought by Crohn’s and Colitis Canada, directly supports individual students in overcoming education barriers due to Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis.
Applicants who are seeking an associate, undergraduate, or graduate degree from a Canadian university; college; or enrolled in a trade school educational diploma are eligible to apply.
Course Level: The scholarship is available for full or part-time studies at a Canadian-based post-secondary educational institution.
Study Subject: Scholarship is awarded in multiple subjects offered by the institution.
Scholarship Award: Crohn’s and Colitis Canada’s awards ten one-time scholarships of up to $5,000 to students of any age, living with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis who are enrolled in a Canadian post-secondary educational institute for the upcoming fall 2017.
Scholarship can be taken in Canada
Eligibility: Applicants of any age are encouraged to apply and must be:
  • A citizen or permanent resident of Canada
  • Diagnosed with Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis by a health care professional
  • Seeking a diploma, associate, undergraduate, or graduate degree from a Canadian university, college or trade school
  • Enrolled in or awaiting acceptance from a Canadian-based post-secondary educational institution for the 2017 fall semester
  • A student who demonstrates academic aspiration and strives to sustain an optimal level of wellness in spite of their Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis, allowing them to excel to reach their goals and inspire others to do the same.
The AbbVie IBD Scholarship Program is a competitive bursary. Application for the program does not guarantee funding for the upcoming educational year. Employees of Crohn’s and Colitis Canada or AbbVie and their immediate family members are not eligible for this scholarship.
Nationality: Applicants from Canada are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
College Admission Requirement
Entrance Requirements: Applicants who are seeking an associate, undergraduate, or graduate degree from a Canadian university; college; or enrolled in a trade school educational diploma are eligible to apply.
How to Apply: The mode of application is online. All applicants must submit scanned originals of the following information via online by June 1, 2017 at 5pm EDT-
  • A completed 2017 AbbVie IBD Scholarship online application
  •  A completed and signed Proof of Diagnosis Form from your treating health care professional
  • A signed and dated Applicant Consent Form
  • Two (2) letters of personal recommendation from a teacher, guidance counselor, school official, coach, mentor, health care provider, professional colleague or employer
  • A one (1) page essay (500 words max) outlining how you demonstrate your academic aspiration and strive to sustain an optimal level of wellness in spite of your Crohn’s or colitis, allowing you to excel to reach your personal and academic goals and inspire others to do the same. Questions to address in your essay:
  •  Why do you strive for academic success?
  •  How do you strive to sustain an optimal level of wellness?
  •  What are your personal and academic goals?
  •  How you inspire others through community and school involvement?
  •  How would you benefit from the scholarship financially and psychologically?
