Czech Republic Government Scholarships for Foreign Students, 2016-2017


Applications are invited for Czech Republic Government scholarships available for foreign university/college students or graduates and PhD candidates. Scholarship-holders may be admitted for research visits (i.e. either attending non-degree courses of their choice, or pursuing an independent research activity, depending on their qualifications and preferences), or for study visits, when they enroll in a standard study programme for the period of scholarship specified in the intergovernmental/departmental agreement concerned. Foreign authorities present the nominations before the deadline set in the relevant agreements, in most cases by 31 March 2016.
Study Subject(s): Scholarships are awarded in all subjects available at the eligible Czech public institutions of higher education.
Course Level: Scholarships are available university/college students or graduates and PhD candidates (exceptionally also for university researchers/teachers) who wish to accomplish a study or research stay at one of the eligible Czech public institutions of higher education.

Eligibility: -Scholarship-holders may be admitted for research visits (i.e. either attending non-degree courses of their choice, or pursuing an independent research activity, depending on their qualifications and preferences), or for study visits, when they enroll in a standard study programme for the period of scholarship specified in the intergovernmental/departmental agreement concerned. Since the courses they follow in the Czech Republic do not lead to the award of a degree, the host universities usually do not require them to sit entrance examinations.
-The terms and conditions of admission and requirements concerning the language of tuition are stipulated by the host university that takes an autonomous decision whether or not the applicant can be accepted within the framework of the Ministry’s scholarship programme.
-Prospective applicants are advised to contact the selected university directly and request a letter of invitation from the appropriate department. Although such a letter is not listed among obligatory attachments to the application form, its submission is recommended, since it may simplify and expedite the admission procedure. Applicants are requested to point out to the selected university that they are applying for the Ministry’s scholarship award under an international agreement.
-Note please that access to art academies can be somewhat limited because the applicants must meet demanding requirements and demonstrate their talent. Samples of artistic work, e.g. photographs, video/audio recording of a musical performance etc., must be attached to the application forms of fine/performing arts students/graduates.
-All applicants should indicate the preferred period of scholarship in their application form. The Ministry reserves the right to change the requested term of scholarship and/or place any applicant to a course and/or higher education institution different from those indicated in his/her scholarship application form, if admission as requested by the applicant is not feasible.
Scholarship Open for International Students: Students from Argentina, Austria, Bulgaria (only academic staff members), Egypt, Estonia, Estonia, Malta, France, Germany, Greece, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Latvia, Luxembourg, Macedonia/FYROM, Malta, Mexico, Mongolia, Peru, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain, Switzerland, Vietnam, Albania, Bulgaria, China, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia and the Ukraine can apply for these Czech Republic government scholarships.

What does it cover?-For the academic year 2016/2017, the scholarship amounts to CZK 9,000 per month for those who do not hold a Master’s degree or equivalent and CZK 9,500 per month for holders of a Master’s degree or equivalent. Scholarship-holders are exempted from tuition fees. The scholarship has to be collected in person at the appropriate department of the respective Czech university. Inexpensive accommodation at student dormitories is offered as well as the possibility to take meals at student catering facilities. The applicants are requested to indicate in their application form whether they wish to obtain lodging at a student dormitory.
-Medical care for EU/EEA citizens who are properly insured in their home countries is provided in compliance with the European Parliament and Council (EC) Regulation No. 883/2004, as last amended, and its implementing Regulation No. 987/2009, as amended by Regulation No. 465/2012 – detailed information is available on the website of the Centre for International Reimbursements.
Note: please that the expenses for repatriation are not covered by the provisions of the aforementioned European Regulations and it is therefore advisable to contract an insurance policy to this end.
-As regards non-EU/EEA citizens, medical care is provided to the extent stipulated in the respective intergovernmental/departmental agreement under which the scholarship is awarded. If the agreement concerned does not provide for any coverage of medical care, the admitted applicants are required to arrange a health insurance policy for the period of their stay in the Czech Republic. Please consult the consular section of the Czech Embassy in your country to find out about detailed requirements applying to the minimum scope of compulsory insurance policy.

Notification: The scholarship award is notified by a Decision issued by the Ministry. There is no legal claim to the scholarship award. The scholarship is not transferable to another person.
How to Apply: On principle, nominations and application dossiers must be submitted to the Ministry by the competent authorities (usually government agencies) of eligible countries (note: in the case of Austria the Ã–sterreichische Austauschdienst – GmbH) or, if so agreed with the competent foreign authorities, by the Czech Embassies in those countries. Applications sent directly to the Ministry by individual applicants will not be processed. All these documents must be written in or translated into Czech, English, French or German. Fine arts and performing arts students/graduates are moreover required to attach a sample of their artistic work, e.g. photographs, video/audio recording of a musical performance etc.

Scholarship Application Deadline: Foreign authorities present the nominations before the deadline set in the relevant agreements, in most cases by 31 March 2016. Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for Master’s Courses in UK, 2016



Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) in partnership with UK universities offers Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries. Shared Scholarships are usually tenable for one-year Master’s courses only. Candidates are recruited and selected by UK host universities in the first instance. Selection criteria include: the academic merit of the candidate, as well as the likely impact of their work on the development of their home country. The EAS will close to applicants on 16 April 2016 and no further applications can be submitted after that date.

Scholarship Description: Commonwealth Scholarships for Master’s and PhD study in the UK are offered for citizens of developing Commonwealth countries. These scholarships are funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID), with the aim of contributing to the UK’s international development aims and wider overseas interests, supporting excellence in UK higher education, and sustaining the principles of the Commonwealth. Students from developing countries who would not otherwise be able to study in the UK can apply for Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for Master’s study, jointly supported by UK universities.

What does it cover? Shared Scholarships are jointly funded by the CSC and participating UK universities. Each Scholarship provides:
-Approved airfare from your home country to the UK and return at the end of your award (arranged by the university; funded by the CSC)
-Approved tuition and examination fees (funded by the CSC)
-Stipend (living allowance) at the rate of £1,034 per month, or £1,268 per month for those studying at universities in the London metropolitan area (rates quoted at 2015-2016 levels) (paid and funded by the university)
-Thesis grant towards the cost of preparing a dissertation, where applicable (claimed from and paid by the university; funded by the CSC)
-Warm clothing allowance and visa reimbursement, where applicable (paid and funded by the university)
-Study travel grant towards the costs of study-related travel within the UK or overseas (claimed from and paid by the university; funded by the CSC)
-Excess baggage allowance, up to an annual approved limit, when returning home (claimed from and paid by the university; funded by the CSC)
No additional allowances are available for spouses or other dependants.
Selection Process: Each participating UK university will conduct its own recruitment process to select a specified number of candidates for Shared Scholarships. Universities must put forward their selected candidates to the CSC by 29 April 2016. The CSC will then confirm that these candidates meet the eligibility criteria for this scheme. Universities will inform candidates of their results by July 2016.

The CSC will not accept any applications that are not submitted via the EAS to their UK university or applications directly from individuals.
Scholarship Application Deadline: The EAS will close to applicants on 16 April 2016 and no further applications can be submitted after that date. Candidates should note that most university closing dates fall before 16 April and you must submit your application by the date advised by the university to which you are applying.
