50 Melbourne Graduate Scholarships for International Students in Australia, 2018

The University of Melbourne is now accepting applications for up to 50 Melbourne Graduate Scholarships to high achieving students undertaking graduate study at the University. Citizens of a country other than Australia or New Zealand and not a permanent resident of Australia are eligible to apply.
Established in 1853, the University of Melbourne is a public-spirited institution that makes distinctive contributions to society in research, learning, and teaching and engagement. It is consistently ranked among the leading universities in the world, with international rankings of world universities placing it as number 1 in Australia and number 33 in the world (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2015-2016).
Applicants must have completed tertiary studies that are at least equivalent to a 4-year honours degree at an Australian university with a minimum result of first class honours. The University of Melbourne TOEFL Institution Code is 0974. Please use this code so that your results can be reported to us. Some faculties may accept graduate students with a slightly lower IELTS, TOEFL, Pearson Test of English or CAE score.

Scholarship Description: 

  • Application Deadline: No application is required. You will be automatically considered for this award.
  • Course Level: Scholarships are available to pursue graduate degree programme.
  • Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to study Agriculture, animal studies, food science and veterinary science; Architecture, building and planning; Commerce, economics and management; Computing and Information; Education, teaching and training; Engineering; Historical, philosophical, political and social studies; Language, literature and cultural studies; Law, legal studies and criminology; Sciences and mathematics.
  • Scholarship Award: The scholarship provides fee remissions of between 25% and 100% of tuition fees for the duration of your course.
  • Nationality: Citizens of a country other than Australia or New Zealand and not a permanent resident of Australia are eligible to apply.
  • Number of Scholarships: Approximately 50 scholarships are available.
  • Scholarship can be taken in Australia

Entrance Requirements: To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to:

  • Be commencing study at the University of Melbourne for the first time
  • Not be in receipt of any other tuition fee remission scholarship or sponsorship which, in combination with the IPCA, exceeds 100% of tuition fees
  • Not have received any other scholarship provided by the Australian Government in the last 2 years
Eligible graduate coursework degrees include:
  • Any Master degree by coursework offered by the Melbourne Business School, Melbourne School of Design and Melbourne School of Engineering
  • Master of Science in BioSciences, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, Ecosystem Science, Mathematics & Statistics, and Physics, Master of Biotechnology, Master of Data Science, Master of Environmental Science, Master of Geography, Master of Geoscience, Master of Urban Horticulture and the Master of Forest Ecosystem Science offered by the Faculty of Science.
  • Master of Teaching offered by the Melbourne Graduate School of Education
  • Executive Master of Arts, Master of Translation and Master of International Journalism offered by the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences

Government of Canada Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships, 2018-2019

The Government of Canada offers Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship program for Canadian and foreign citizens. Up to 70 fellowships are awarded annually (a total of up to 140 awards are active at any time).
The Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program provides funding to the very best postdoctoral applicants, both nationally and internationally, who will positively contribute to the country’s economic, social and research-based growth.
The objective of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is to attract and retain top-tier postdoctoral talent, both nationally and internationally, develop their leadership potential and position them for success as research leaders of tomorrow.
Applicants must have PhD-equivalent or health professional degree from a foreign university.

Scholarship Description:

  • Application Deadline: September 19, 2018
  • Course Level: Fellowships program provides support to the very best postdoctoral applicants.
  • Study Subject: Fellowships are awarded in following research areas: Health research, Natural sciences and/or engineering and Social sciences and/or humanities.
  • Scholarship Award: Fellowships worth of $70,000 per year (taxable) will be awarded.

Eligibility for the Scholarship:

  • Entrance Requirements: Confirm that you and your proposed host institution meet the criteria below before you apply for a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship.Applications that do not meet all of the eligibility criteria will not be accepted.Applicant eligibility
    Citizenship and location of host institution
    Canadian citizens, permanent residents of Canada and foreign citizens are eligible to apply with the following stipulations:
    • Applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada may only hold their Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at a Canadian institution,
    • Applicants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada and who obtained their PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree from a foreign university may only hold their Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at a Canadian institution, and
    • Applicants who are Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada and who obtained their PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree from a Canadian university may hold their Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship at either a Canadian institution or an institution outside of Canada.

    The Banting PDF program previously had a limit of 25% on the number of awards granted to postdoctoral trainees for tenure abroad. This limit has been removed, effective as of the 2017-2018 competition.
    Eligibility window for degree completion
    Applicants to the 2017-18 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program must fulfill or have fulfilled all degree requirements for a PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree:
    • between September 20, 2014 and September 30, 2018 (inclusively), and
    • before the start date of their award.
    Applicants who have not fulfilled all requirements for their degree at the time of application must submit proof no later than October 15, 2018.

    Allowable extensions to eligibility window

    The window of eligibility can be extended by a cumulative maximum of two years if the applicant had their career interrupted for the following reasons:
    • Parental leave
    • Illness
    • Health-related family responsibilities
    • Mandatory military service
    Additionally, for health professionals who have engaged in post-degree non-research related clinical training (e.g. residency) – the eligibility window can be extended by the duration of this training.
    No other exceptions will be allowed.
    Interruptions used to extend the eligibility window for degree completion must have occurred after the fulfillment of your degree requirements and before the application submission deadline.
    Justification must be provided in Special circumstances.
    “Fulfilled all requirements of the degree” refers to the date that the applicant completed all the steps required for obtaining their degree. Although these requirements may vary by institution and degree type, they normally include thesis defence corrections and thesis deposition. It is not the convocation date.
    Host institution eligibility
    Institutions eligible to host a Banting Fellow include Canadian and foreign universities, affiliated research hospitals, colleges and not-for-profit organizations with a strong research mandate and capacity.Canadian governments (federal, provincial and municipal) and all for-profit organizations are not eligible to participate as host institutions.Please contact the Vanier-Banting Secretariat with any questions regarding institutional eligibility well in advance of the submission deadline. Other eligibility restrictions
    • Applicants who currently hold or have held agency-specific (CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC) awards at the postdoctoral level are eligible to apply to the 2017-18 Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program only if the term of that funding officially ends on or before September 30, 2018 and prior to the start of the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship. Early termination of the agency-specific postdoctoral award for the purpose of application to the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program is not permitted.
    • Applicants can apply for both the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program and other agency-specific postdoctoral fellowships programs (whether to the same or a different federal granting agency) at the same time, provided that the research proposed in each application falls within the mandate of the federal granting agency to which the application is submitted.       *Applicants who are successful in both competitions will have to choose which award to accept.
    • Applicants must not hold a tenure-track or tenured faculty position, nor can they be on leave from such a position.
    • Only in exceptionally rare circumstances will a Banting Postdoctoral Fellowship be awarded to an applicant who is staying at the same institution or within the same research environment where they completed their PhD, PhD– equivalent or health professional degree. If an applicant chooses to apply in collaboration with the same institution (or its affiliated hospitals, research centres and other laboratories or within the same research environment) at which they obtained their PhD, PhD-equivalent or health professional degree, a solid justification must be provided in Special circumstances.
    • Applicants can submit only one application per competition year to the Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships program.
    • Without exception, Banting Postdoctoral Fellowships:
      • are tenable only at the institution which supported the original application for the program
      • must be taken up no earlier than April 1st and no later than October 1st following the year of application
      • are for two years
      • can only be held once in a lifetime

Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for Master’s Courses in UK, 2018

Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC) in partnership with UK universities offers Commonwealth Shared Scholarships for students from developing Commonwealth countries. Shared Scholarships are usually tenable for one-year Master’s courses only.
The purpose of the scholarship is to contribute to development needs of Commonwealth countries by providing training for skilled and qualified professionals and academics who would not otherwise have been able to study in the UK.
The Commonwealth Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) is one of the largest and most prestigious scholarship schemes for international study in the world. Since it was established in 1959, around 30,000 individuals have benefited – 25,000 of them have held awards funded by the UK government, managed by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission in the United Kingdom (CSC).If applicants require a Tier 4 visa to come to the UK to study, they may be required to take an approved English language test and/or be screened for tuberculosis for your visa application. These regulations are subject to change at any time.

Scholarship Description:

  • Course Level: Scholarships are available for pursuing master’s degree program at UK Institutions.
  • Study Subject: Scholarships are awarded to study subjects related to the development of their home country at participating UK universities only.
  • Scholarship Award: Shared Scholarships are jointly funded by the CSC and participating UK universities. Each Scholarship provides:
    • Approved airfare from your home country to the UK and return at the end of your award (arranged by the university; funded by the CSC)
    • Approved tuition and examination fees (funded by the CSC)
    • Stipend (living allowance) at the rate of £1,043 per month, or £1,279 per month for those studying at universities in the London metropolitan area (rates quoted at 2016-2017 levels) (paid and funded by the university)

    • Study travel grant towards the costs of study-related travel within the UK or overseas (claimed from and paid by the university; funded by the CSC)

Full Fees PhD Scholarships for UK/EU and International Students at University of Hull in UK, 2018

For the year 2018, University of Hull is offering a full-time UK/EU PhD Scholarship or International Fees Bursary for candidates applying for the postgraduate research degrees.
